Palm Dreams is a physics-based 3D platformer in which players take control of a sentient Palm Tree. Since Palm Trees are firmly rooted in the earth, players must launch coconuts to defeat enemies, bend around Matrix-style to dodge projectiles, and bounce around as a coconut to grow elsewhere.
I was responsible for modeling and texturing 3D assets that helped bring life to the tropical environment.
Below are the assets I modeled in Autodesk Maya and Speedtree. The textures were done in Photoshop.
Detailed carvings on the ruin columns were done in Zbrush & baked in Substance Painter.
During the early stages of the game we needed carving designs to help flesh out the palm tree's appearance. I drafted out potential designs that could be used.
For the color scheme of the islands I painted an island concept of colors can be implemented for the overall tone of the game.
Next, I looked into what designs could be used on the coconuts & the appropriate colors for them.
After that followed the concepts for the particle effects each elemental coconut would have. The concepts helped picture how reactive the coconut should be once landing.
